What is a Peer Specialist?
Certified Peer Specialists (Peers) are team members who have personal lived experience navigating their own mental health and/or substance use recovery. Peers are here to support your recovery journey through mentoring, supporting your voice and choice, building skills for success, and connecting to community resources.
Certified Family Partners (CFP) are team members who have personal lived experience as the primary guardian of a child with mental health or behavioral health needs. CFPs have firsthand experience navigating different child serving agencies such as mental health services, the education system, juvenile justice, and social security. CFPs role is to support the caregiver’s voice in services, provide mentorship and advocacy support, build skills for success, and connect with needed community resources.
When you work with a Peer or Family Partner, you are seen as the expert of your own recovery, and you drive the services and recovery pathway that is best for you. Peer services are provided in both group and individual settings and can be delivered in the clinic, home, community, or virtually.
